In your grandfather's day, bone was the most common knife handle material. Back then, cattle shin bone (the bone used for knife handles) was readily available. Today, the increased commercial uses of cattle bone (such as fertilizer and as an ingredient for camera film) has limited supply, and many knife manufacturers have stopped using this material entirely. At Case, we continue to use genuine cattle bone and offer many varieties of this handsome and traditional material.
